Neff Bake-It-Yourself Winner

A young baking enthusiast from Derrylin has come out top in Jenny Bristow’s BIY competition.

The competition, in association with Neff and Fresh magazine, challenged local bakers to make their best loved cake then upload a photo and recipe to Jenny’s website. The bakers were competing for some great prizes including a swish afternoon tea for two at the Merchant Hotel and a hamper of goodies from Arcadia, UK Deli of the Year.

The winning entry was baked by 14 year old school girl, Grainne McCaffrey, who made a colourful marble cake for the compeition. Baking is one of her favourite hobbies and her mum says she has developed quite a reputation for whipping up tea-time treats in the family kitchen!

Presenting Grainne with her prize at the Neff Learning Centre, Jenny Bristow commented: “The response from seasoned cooks and budding bakers in Northern Ireland was amazing. I was particularly pleased by the number of entries from schools, where entire Home Economics classes entered the BIY competition.

Grainne’s winning entry was a lovely old fashioned cake, decorated in bright cheery spring-like colours - classic, simple and delicious. I want another slice!”
Grainne’s cake and recipe will be featured on Jenny’s website: www.jennybristow.com and you can join the growing BIY community on www.facebook.com/bakeityourself where members swop recipes and share clever baking tips.
